DESCRIPTION:Build a flower press from reclaimed wood then learn to use it!\n\n\nRebuilding Exchange and Evanston Lands are partnering on a festive workshop featuring reuse and flowers. What could be better??  \nIn this workshop you’ll start with building a flower press from reclaimed wood. Presses will be roughly 9″x12″ and capable of pressing several layers of flowers at once. \nOnce your press is built you’ll learn to use it! We will chat about how to select\, prepare and press flowers in traditional presses. Special attention will be paid to how to avoid browning and breakage. We are proud to offer Open Shop\, where you’ll have 3 hours to work on whatever tickles your fancy (all projects subject to instructor approval). \nWe welcome all skills levels but strongly suggest that you take 1 or 2 introductory workshops with us first before venturing out on your own!  \nOur instructors will be there to show you how to use the equipment\, supervise to make sure you leave with all your fingers and toes\, and provide direction if you need an expert opinion\, but they will not make your project for you. We cannot guarantee that your project will be finished in only 3 hours. DESCRIPTION:Make your own plant stand from reclaimed material!\n\n\nMAKE IT!  Students will learn how to craft a small rustic plant stand from reclaimed wood or wood flooring. You will review plans\, select materials\, and receive instruction and safety guidelines for the chop saw and drill. You will make their own measurements and cuts\, and layout and assemble tables with glue and screws.  \nTAKE IT!  You will then take your plant stand and keep your plant alive while it lives on the table!  If you buy a Couples Ticket\, then one stand will be made by the couple. \n  Note: If the ticket type you want is not available\, we may be able to accommodate! DESCRIPTION:Learn intermediate woodworking skills by building a frame in this 3 part series!\n\n\nSchedule: This is a 3 part series. There is exactly one week in between each session; the same time and day of the week (ex: Saturdays at 10:30am)  \nIn this three-day workshop\, participants will bring an artwork on paper (perhaps a drawing\, watercolor\, family photo\, concert poster\, postcard\, playing card\, ticket stub… anything on paper that’s no larger than 18×24”) and learn how to frame it in a gallery-quality box frame. We will professionally mat the artwork\, design and build the frame\, and mount the matted piece in the frame. The principles and techniques covered in this class can easily be applied to framing projects of any scale. \nThis is an intermediate level class. Our Intermediate 3-Day Bench-Making Class is perfect for woodworking enthusiasts who are ready to take their skills to the next level! In this course\, you will have the opportunity to work with reclaimed wood to build a beautiful and functional bench that will last for years to come. Over the course of the three days\, you will be taught about some of the design principles that furniture makers consider as you develop your skills as a builder.  \nAs you craft a gorgeous piece of furniture using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery\, you will learn how to use jigs to improve accuracy and efficiency in addition to the proper use of hand tools like chisels and hand saws. At the end of the course\, you will be left with an expanded skill set that you can ponder while sitting on your sturdy and attractive new bench: perfect for taking your shoes off after a day in the shop!  \nThis is an intermediate level class.
